About Lisa...

Lisa lives and works in Olympia, WA.
Her narrative batiks are expressions of her own experiences, often tinged with nostalgia as she explores her past, her ancestors, her role as a mother and grandmother, and literally sews stories together with ancestral threads. Her pieces explore the emotive landscape that we inhabit. The imagery, patterns, and faceless stick figures represent her life as well as invite the viewer to bring their own story to the pieces with the hopes of sparking conversation and connection.
Primarily self-taught, Lisa has been working with the medium of batik over 30 years, pushing the boundaries of a craft into an art. The daughter of a fabric wonder mother - who quilted, sewed clothing, upholstered, crocheted, could turn fabric scraps into masterpieces- and a father with an eye for design and a self taught portrait artist and all around creative, she felt right at home with the medium of batik that melded so much of her formative years. She travels the country exhibiting the work which has garnered many awards. She comes home to Olympia to hide out in her garden and to be with her family- which includes her artist/musician husband, 2 incredibly creative and talented grown kids, and a precious grandbaby.
