Lisa Telling Kattenbraker
Contemporary American Batik

The growing of magic happens with the planting of each seed
Picture
I am an artist living and working in Olympia, WA for the last 15 years. For over 25 years I have been creating batiks using locally harvested beeswax, fiber reactive and natural dyes on cotton fabric. The narrative batiks are expressions of experiences from my own life, while the imagery, patterns, symbols, and faceless stick figures invite the viewer to bring their own stories into each creation with the hopes of sparking conversation and connection. The past few years I have worked with a focus on connecting with ancestors and the ways communities grow together. I travel the country exhibiting my work, and when home can be found in the studio and garden.
